The State policy on plastic waste management is to promote segregation and thereby generate a second level of source of income to the Haritha Karma Sena members who are engaged in the door-to-door collection of these wastes. Post segregation, the value of plastic wastes increases significantly. Plastic wastes are segregated based on their grades. To ensure that segregation is done at the ground level Clean Kerala Company provides in-hand training to the Haritha Karma Sena members to increase their segregation skill and thereby enabling them to earn more revenue.

According to the new procurement model for waste material from LSGs, the rates for 20 categories of waste materials ranging from different grades of plastics, paper, glass and metal has been published by Clean Kerala Company. Company will procure waste material from LSGs at a predetermined rate which is reviewed and renewed periodically based on the market condition.
